I now have my Dell laptop in my lap on the patio. I purchased a Linksys router, Wireless - G Broadband Router with SRX400 (WRT54GX4) yesterday and spent about two hours on the phone with the tech support group last night. At 2:00am I finally got a wireless connection with the router at 54mbps, so far so good.

Let me say that the tech support woman I got last night, Anne, was an angel. She was very patient with me and always polite. It seems that the Westell DSL modem that I use to connect to Bellsouth DSL uses the same ip addresses that the Linksys router uses and therefore caused a major headache for me and Anne.

Later tonight I will wander over to the pool area to see if this router has the purported power and signal strength it claims to have. I’ll see what kind of connection I can get from about 60 - 70 feet away.
