Finally Took the Plunge
May 1, 2006
OK. I made fun of my brother several posts ago calling him a gadget geek but truth be told I guess it runs in the family. I will be having surgery in May on my hip. It stems from a 15 year old injury that has decided to rear its ugly head again. I will be in the hospital anywhere from 3 to 5 days and recovery will take about 7 to 10 months, most of that flat on my back letting the bones mend.
Hence the need for a laptop computer, my first, I ordered a Dell with everything upgraded from RAM to video card and video RAM and a 80G hard drive. I added the better, or recommended, wireless card and a wireless router. It should get here in time to get everything hooked up and working plus adding my own software I use regularly.
I will be out of touch with a computer in mid-May, while in the hospital and recovery at home, but will try to resume posting in June. At the very least I will update you on my condition as well as try to review a few stogies.

Good luck with your new “gadget” Richard. (Is the gadget your new laptop or a bionic hip?) Email me when you’re ambulatory enough to get out on that porch and I’ll send you a few choice sticks to review. Godspeed! –Tom.
Congrats on the purchase. I bought my wife a very similar Inspiron. Dell makes a great laptop. I’m using a Latitude D600 right now. I work in the IT department for my company and we are a Dell shop. I have always been very happy with Dells. I hope yours is good to you as well.
@tom — Thanks for the well wishes. I will take you up on that offer as soon as I can get around.
@matt — so far I love this thing. Never used one in the past but it’s great so far.
