IMO “One Off” Cigar Review: Cohiba Corona Minor

This is an IMO “One Off” Cigar Review, basically this is a first impression light up only, and I will try to review this cigar as a normal IMO Cigar Review at a later date.

Sorry to report that this weekend yielded no new fish stories, I guess I could tell one but it would really be a fish story. Tyler and I did go fishing at the Pope Duval Fish Management Area on Saturday morning and no results to report except for the cigar review I did while there.

As soon as he was out of the truck Tyler was on his way to try and re-catch the fish I had caught last week.
The last lake was busy, about 4 vehicles parked here and there, several people sprinkled around the lake but no one was near Tyler’s fish.

Ryan Brown from BuyMyCigars.com contacted me several weeks ago and offered a couple of cigars for a link exchange on the site. I agreed and within the week Ryan made good and sent over a couple of the Cohiba (Red Dot) Corona Minors.

The Cohiba (Red Dot) Corona Minor is a short stick (4″ X 42 ring gauge) compared to many of the regular cigars I smoke. I think many cigar smokers look for and pick cigars that fit the time frame they have to smoke when the chance to smoke comes around. You never want to light a 7-8 inch stick costing $10.00 only to realize you have 15 minutes to smoke it. :-(

Tyler disappeared down the path as I lit the cigar and poured a soft drink to quench my thirst. The wrapper’s construction is, as expected, flawless. A few small veins are visible running along the length of the stick.

A heavy spice and leather flavor came through on the initial light up. The leather faded some, the spiciness remained as an undercurrent while some earthiness became evident after about a 1/3rd of the stick was smoked.

The ashes were tight and compact and easily passed the “inch by inch” test. The Cohiba (Red Dot) Corona Minor produced a tremendous amount of smoke volume for its small size.

The downside with the Cohiba (Red Dot) Corona Minor is the price. Several searches on the net found the price of this stick running from $7.00 to $9.00 for singles. I would recommend you pick up 3 - 4 sticks and toss them in your humidor for the times that come along when you want a really great cigar but only have a few minutes to smoke it. But I can not recommend it as an everyday smoke because there are other cigars out there with the multidimensional flavors and are inexpensive in cost.

For another opinion, Matt recently reviewed the same stick over at Matt’s Cigar Journal stop by over there after you read my review and compare them.
