IMO Cigar Review: Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Robusto
March 1, 2006
I brought along a Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Robusto to smoke while I visited my dad and to pick up a stray video game rental that Tyler had since his last weekend with me.
The weather yesterday was Florida’s best, the last day of February and the high was 74º, slight breeze, no humidity, and glorious sunshine. A perfect day deserves a perfect cigar to smoke. On the outside the Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Robusto looked that it just might be the cigar to feel that space.

The Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Robusto wrapper was glistening with a thin oily sheen in the sunshine. The Ecuadorian wrapper has a rich tobacco aroma and its superior construction is evident. The color of the wrapper is a uniform deep brown and displays only a few tiny veins. This is a handsome box pressed cigar.
The smoke volume was mediocre, maybe due to the tight draw. The ashes passed the inch by inch test easily. They were tightly arranged and extremely white.
I smoked and made notes in my recorder about the stick as I walked down to the bridge. The great weather we have had lately has caused many of the spring time flowers and weeds to start blooming early. I think Mother Nature may have a surprise for them before the real spring finally arrives. While at the bridge I noticed that the field on the right side was covered in tiny blackberry blooms, it looked like millions of tiny little white stars on a background of green.
The Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Robusto is the typical size stick that I smoke. It is 5 1/2” with a 50 ring gauge. This usually translates to about a 45 minute smoke for me. This stick had a very slow burn and it took about a hour to finish.
The Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Robusto flavors continually evolved as I smoked. The initial spice diminished but never ended and over the course of the stick developed into an earth tone with woody and cocoa highlights.
The Rocky Patel Vintage 1992 Robusto is a fantastic smoke maybe not perfect but very close. The complex flavor changes and the construction make this an easy cigar to recommend to all.

I’ve had the same draw problems with the 92 vintage. I haven’t heard this complaint too often, so I might try it again sometime. Maybe it was the box… On the other hand, the 90s I’ve sampled have been perfect. I think I prefer the Honduran wrapper on the 90 as well.
cigarfan,
Out of the 5 RP’s I smoked for this review three had tight draws. So I thought I’d mention it in the review.
I do like them, matter of fact, I am on my way out the door with one in my hand to enjoy on my drive across town.
I have not tried the 90’s, but on your recommendation I will soon.
[…] Richard over at Blankmindblog reviewed an RP Vintage 1992 Robusto and it put me in mind of the 1990 version that I’ve enjoyed in the past. After rooting around in the humidor I found a couple that I couldn’t wait to fire up to see if my opinion or the cigar has changed over the past few months. […]
