IMO “One Off” Cigar Review: Roxor Deluxe Robusto Natural

This is an IMO “One Off” Cigar Review, basically this is a first impression light up only, and I will try to review this cigar as a normal IMO Cigar Review at a later date.

In December I received an email from the CigarEnvy email discussion list from the Perseo Cigar Company offering to send cigar samples to the first 20 members to reply:

Roxor Delux by Perseo Cigar Company. I’m the VP of a great Nicaraguan cigar. There are four sizes (robusto, toro, churchill and torpedo) with three different wrappers (natural, Cameroon and maduro). The cigar is made of Lijero, Viso and Seco tobaccos and is aged for over three years. A lot of taste but no bitterness or harshness.”

I crossed my fingers and pressed the send button of my reply email. Soon I received a simple reply from Phil La Bondano stating he will be sending out the samples in a few days. :-)

About a week later I get a nice surprise in the mail, as promised, I was the happy owner of three robustos, one each in a natural, Cameroon, and maduro wrapper. I placed them into my humidor to settle down from their trip and waited for the right time to break one out. Tyler was going through my humidor a few weeks ago and noticed the Roxor Deluxe Robustos and commented that the cigar bands looked like alien heads looking back at you. The cigar band is bright green and black and has a a large ‘X’ and does look similar to the green alien head at a glance.

The first Roxor Deluxe Robusto I decided to burn was the natural wrapper. The wrapper had a slightly oily to the touch feel and was light brown in color. The wrapper had very few veins and smelled lightly of cedar.

The Roxor Deluxe Robusto Natural is 5″ long and has a 54 size ring gauge that balances very well in my hand. The stick was easy to light and burned evenly from start to finish.

The smoke was thick and I was able to make smoke rings easily. It remained heavy for the entire 45 minutes that it took to finish the stick. The ash was white to dark gray and was not loose or flakey.

The start up flavor was very creamy with some hints of spice. This continued until about half the stick was ashes and then I began to pick up hints of pepper and chocolate. The Roxor Deluxe Robusto Natural packed quite a bit of taste into the 5″ robusto size.

I really enjoyed the intensity and variety of the flavors that the Roxor Deluxe Robusto Natural presented to me on the back patio. If this stick is from another planet, as suggested by my son, Tyler, then I say welcome to my world! :-)
