IMO Cigar Review: Don Tomas Cameroon Collection Perfecto No. 2

As promised I was able to fire up the Don Tomas Cameroon Collection Perfecto No. 2 Saturday afternoon. Just a word about this weekend in Jacksonville, Florida. This is the weekend for the Florida Gators vs. Georgia Bulldogs football game, aka World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party. Woe is me, if you do not have a ticket to the game it is best to stay inside and catch the game/games on TV. Which is exactly what I did! :-)

Patrice picked up a couple of filet mignon steaks and put me in charge of the grill, which I gladly accepted. I thought what a perfect time to light up while the charcoals where getting good.

On the Don Tomas Cameroon Collection Perfecto No. 2 I used my small punch to open this 5″ long, 48 size ring gauge cigar. The cigar smelled delicious, nice tobacco smell. The wrapper was light brown with a few pronounced veins, but not enough to interfere with the burn. The cigar was firm to the touch but not too tight. The Don Tomas Cameroon Collection Perfecto No. 2 has a small tapered head which I was concerned may lead to an uneven burn.

A small blurb from CigarWorld.com:

The Don Tomás Cameroon Collection is available in seven shapes, four of which are perfectos. The perfecto cigar is a work of art and can only be hand-rolled by the most accomplished craftsman. All of the tobaccos in this line of cigars have been aged for a minimum of three years.

After applying the flame and a few drags the stick was off and running. The initial draw was tight, probably due to the small tapered head. Once the head had burned, the draw could not have been better. This stick began with a spicy, earthy tone and hint of cinnamon. The spiciness built up throughout the entire smoke. Once I passed the half way mark I was able to detect a leathery vanilla tone. This smoke produced a wonderful mix of tones.

The smoke was sweet smelling and creamy. The heavy smoke made this a smoke ring friendly stick. The ash was light gray, and had a even and tight consistency. I did notice a few times the cigar began to burn unevenly but soon adjusted itself. No touch up required throughout the smoke. After a few adjustments to the charcoal grill the cigar was very well-behaved in the ash tray, very little self smoking going on.

The coals in the grill were ready, the steaks were seasoned and ready for the grill. The Don Tomas Cameroon Collection Perfecto No. 2 took about 40 minutes to finish and I was sorry to see it come to an end. It was a real joy to smoke, another great stick to add to anyones humidor.

Oh yeah, by the way,

GO GATORS!
